Ashley Kohanyi is a mental health therapist and Licensed Social Worker (LSW) who has worked in the behavioral health field since 2007. She earned her Master of Arts in Teaching from Rockford University and a Masters of Social Work at George Williams College with a focus in Clinical Mental Health. Ashley worked in substance abuse treatment for several years and then transitioned to a clinical training role. While she still enjoys facilitating counselor education, she now spends most of her time providing direct care in traditional and experiential settings. Ashley also works as an equine-assisted psychotherapist and passionately supports the power of animal-assisted therapy.
Ashley believes the therapeutic relationship is central to the healing process and strives to create a space where you feel safe, seen, heard, and understood. She helps you develop whole-body awareness, create a healthy relationship with your emotions, and works with you to identify and rewrite longstanding narratives that no longer serve you.
Ashley, her husband, and two daughters are Rockford area natives passionate about travel and adventure. When she isn’t working, you can find her enjoying the outdoors, horseback riding, walking or hiking with her dogs, planning her family’s next trip, slowing down and enjoying a good cup of coffee, or spending time with friends and family.
